They are a very eficint carb. Ive worked with a lot of them but never changed one over from a model B. The thing you would have to watch for would be the throttle linkage. I believe the mounting is the same as 55 up. Like you say, you can cap off the unused vacuum outlets. I think it would make a very good swap. The later models around the late 70's to mid 80's had electric chokes & were self contained. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though.
