Hi guys. I have a 47 1.5 ton that is a long term project. It's getting a set of bread truck axles, and I plan to make an air ride system for the back, and maybe the front too. My question is this, would I be better off welding the brackets for the air ride system to the frame, or bolting them? The truck will be getting an assembled vehicle title when it's done, so it will be inspected anyway...

Just wondered what you all think on this.

I would use bolts.

Hy deerfanatic, welding anything to the frame, let alone suspension components, is an official no no, and would never pass inspection in my jurisdiction. You could bolt, rivet, or "Huckbolt" your suspension components to your frame, hope that helps.

Welding....... nono

Drill holes and use bolts, fine thread with Nylock nuts.

Keeps the Authorities much happier grin

I was helping a friend of mine on his truck a 53 1 ton, he welded some stuff on his frame. and the frame warp because of it. if you have to weld try a mig less heat and just for small jobs ie to tact

no welding !! and as far as drilling the frame, if i were you i would try to keep it cool while i was drilling.

Very Cool. I was under the impression that welding was ok of it was going to be inspected afterwards.... Drill and bolt it is then! Thanks guys! smile
