I own a paint and body shop and do a considerable amount of restorations and some general collision work. It never fails that I have a NEW acqaintance come to the shop and want to have their vehicle painted. It usually goes like this," Hey Frank, I want to get my truck painted, nothing fancy, just new paint." If I tell them the cost of painting it, they get all bent out of shape like I'm taking advantage of them. So I started a new techique, I give them a list of materials they will need to paint the truck. Paint, primer, epoxy, clear, reducers and activators. I tell them to take the list to the supplier in town. When they see how much the paint and materials cost, they usually give up. Paint and materials can cost over $800.00 real fast.
So when you get a Maaco paint job, you know you're getting screwed. Quality paint is expensive.
