Section 8, pages 300, 301 and 302 show 3 different kind of muffler supports. None of them resemble the picture. However, the setup in the picture was a very common fix in those days. In those days, parts were expensive and labor was cheap. Very seldom were oem muffler clamps purchased. It could very well be some type of asbestos insulation to keep it from rattling. The dangers of asbestos did not become known to the public until later.
