My name is Jake, and I live in Hollister, California. I have a 1955 First Series 3800 Dually truck that my Dad and I have worked on together. The truck was sitting in a neighboring orchard for 38 years. The owner of the orchard offered it to me for free. I couldn't resist, so I took our tractor and pulled the truck about 1000 yards. Within a week we had the truck started and running. It was rewarding to take a piece of machinery that had been dead and was brought back to life. Since acquiring the truck we have put in all new glass, pumped up the breaks, which are still holding. The tires still hold air after 38 years, and the truck runs clean and quietly.

Good going, Jake. Welcome to the site. I bet it was rewarding to hear that old truck start up. Hopefully you can get it back to what it was many years ago. Happy motoring.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

i just wanted to post some more information on my truck. my truck was in rough shape, it was sitting near a house and the kids that lived there decided to break out all of the windows of the truck. They also threw paint all of the inside of the truck.
when my dad was about eighteen he tried to buy the truck but the owners wouldnt get rid of it the truck was in great shape. the truck was a ranch truck that used to hall flood irrigation pipe for the orchard. the way that i had gotten this truck is that my neighbors offered me a thirty five chevy 1.5 ton that was in pretty bad shape. so me and my dad were looking at it and he said do you want to see an even cooler truck and i said yes. we went and looked at it and my dad said that he would love to have it. so i went to my neighbors and asked if they wanted to get rid of it, they said that i could have it. so i ran home to tell my dad to go get his truck before somebody else does. then i claimed half of him on the way there to get him. i forgot to mention i have a 1955 chevy 3200 and a 1962 chevy c-60

Jake, I can just picture your excitement as you ran (not walked) to get your dad. So you have a fleet of them now.

I really haven't done much to the truck, I changed the oil in the tranny. Me and my dad have been looking for some tires because the ones that he has are worn out. And my dad has been sand blasting some of the interior trim pieces. I plan on getting some better photos of my truck on here this week.

Here are some more pictures of my trucks. Most of these are what the truck looked like right after I got it, but there are a couple with a refinished grill.

Jake,
Great project you have with your dad. My 1957 Chevy 1/2 3100 has been owned by my family since it was new. My dad got the truck June 28, 1957. When he passed away in 2007 he gave the truck to me (he drove it up until 2006).
I started the frame off restoration in March 2009. I plan on returning the truck back to 100% stock with all the original parts and same paint codes. Looks like your 3800 is the same color "Brewster Green" as mine.
I remember sitting on my fathers lap when I was 6 steering the big green monster!
My wife and I live up in San Francisco and she is from Salinas. We go down there all the time.
The restoration is bitter sweet. It is amazing to watch the progress of the job but sad that my dad can't see it and be a part of it.
Good luck and keep us informed on how things go. You will find alot of support in here as I have.

Jon S.
