For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 55 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 55 | I was wondering if the brake flange( or, brake backing plate) from an early '50 to '60 rear brake set-up would readily bolt up to the axle of my '49. I'd like to be rid of the Huck Brake system.Wish I had checked this out before I invested in the new bearings, pinion and ring. If you happen to have a truck catalog from "obsolete chevy" a review of the top and bottom of page 52 will give you an Idea what I'm getting at,It appears as if the flanges would readily change-out Any opinions?? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 2,254 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 2,254 | It will work. You will have to drill out a couple of the bolt holes in the arms and spindles from 7/16 to 1/2.
Not a big problem.
You will go from huck to bendix.

The guy talks about swapping with the 51 bendix brakes, I believe. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | If it's 1/2 ton the 51 up Bendix can be used. The 50 back were the huck brakes. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though.
