Can a 52 216 from a sedan go into a 1953 3100 truck?
Do they both have the same front mount?

I think the 51-52 car motor will have side mounts at the front. You may have to swap the front cover plate off of your truck motor.

Thank you. I found a good running 1952 216 from a Chevy sedan and wanted to put it in my truck.

Are the spark plugs from your motor 13/16 hex or 5/8?

It is a nice engine. I picked it up today.

I think that I will have to use my old bell housing but the water pump is that of a 216. It does not have the front mounting so I will have to drill it out.

I think the cars had the key start. I wonder if I can make that work in the truck?

It is 6 volt. That is cool.

If you have a key start setup on the motor than it should work just like it did in the car. I am not commenting on the two flywheels here as I will leave that to others. You will need to provide a momentary switch like a push button for engaging the starter solenoid.

Cleaned her up a bit on Saturday. She turns over. That is a big plus. I have never bought one that turned over before. But only one was trashed. So. I am encouraged.

The harmonic balancer is different. On the front is a 'reach out an grab ya' fitting. I guess that is for the manual crank.

I wrote down the number. It starts with KAA which shows to be a 216 for automobiles in 1952 - that is nice. Then the 4 diget assembly number (5966 - I think). But then there is a 9I stamped. Don't know what that is?

Back to the starter. Can I get a 1952 car key switch and use it on my truck? I am sure I will have to change the bell housing. And if I leave the current starter/flywheel on the engine I should be able to use the current set up. I don't know the differences in the two switches and wiring. I think the wiring could be worked out.

If you choose to go with the key-start system any universal type ignition switch with a spring-loaded start position can be made to work with the solenoid-engaged starter. The original equipnment ignition switch for a passenger car would work, if you're interested in keeping things all-GM, but that's not really necessary. Another option would be to keep the truck ignition switch and just install a pushbutton switch to engage the starter, like the Hydramatic-equipped trucks did. Those switches mounted on the left side of the dash, just above the parking brake release knob.
