Hi all. I have not been too active here, but stovebolts have never left my heart. The economy has hit hard and the "bolt" has been put on the back burner. My torque tube diff is gone daddy gone. Someone drove it empty until it stopped. It was that way when I bought it. I recently found a craigslist post with a 53 Sedan diff available for 75 bucks. Almost too good to be true. I'm wondering if it would fit my truck. Mine is a manual trans and I don't know what trans is on the Sedan. Any help guys?

Yes it can fit and I have the how to listed in Tech tips. I ran a passenger rear torque tube for years under my 46 half ton.
Also the gear ratio shoule could be 3:55 if the car had automatic and the stick shifts were around 3:70 in 53.

Having said that, I like open drive much better, allows to swap to a modern type trans, lots of ratios etc.

I've thought about the open drive conversion many times. I plan on eventually doing a no holds barred restoration one day but now .... I just would love to drive past my driveway. I have not seen too many clear conversions for this. What is the best way to figure what diff would fit underneath? Is there a kit available for the buget minded? My son does not get enough pay at the sweatshop to support my hobbies.

Just wanted add the note: The tech tip apply's to the 46 and older truck. The car torque tube assy, is shorter and narrower than the AD truck assy. Now is the time to go with newer tranny, open drive line and rearend.

In addition to that, the '49-'54 passenger differential is a different design, not interchangeable with the truck. It has more in common with the '55-'64 10 bolt passenger rear.
