Finally got my 55.1 home to Alaska and I'm currently trying to pull the engine. I can't figure out how to unbolt the engine from the tranny. I pulled the 2 bolts aft of the clutch but thats all I can see that appear to goto the engine. I'm all hooked up to the hoist and front end comes off the frame but thats it. Any quick help available?

There are 4 bolts holding the tranny. Two are threaded into it from inside the bellhousing.

If you have a flywheel cover, you will have to remove it. then look in the bottom corners for two large bolts, one on each side. I think they are 3/4". You may have to remove built up grease, sludge, and other foul stuff to see the bolts. Once removed the separation can occur.

Split the trans from the bellhousing and then pull it. Once you get it out, you'll have to pull the flywheel to get to the rest of the bolts in order to remove the bellhousing.

The flywheel is heavy.

Be careful when you pull it back off the crankshaft.

if it is at all possible, try to aligh everything and not move it as it will make it easier on you to get the trans back onto the engine. the flywheel is bolted but the clutch swings free, making the holes tough to line up. I (believe it or not) use duct tape to the clutch to keep it exactly centered so my trans will slide onto the shaft easier. nothing worse than holding a zillion ton trans and trying to get the holes slid onto the shaft

If you do not have a clutch alignment tool, buy or borrow one (it also comes free in clutch-assembly sets - wait a few seconds for this to load).
