I'm going to replace them with phips head or socket head cap screws but I still need to get the existing ones out. Looks like some special tool is needed.

Thanks,

Keith

You can buy Clutch Head Screw drivers at just about any good tool retailer, or you can modify a flat head screwdriver with a grinder to remove the clutch head screws if they aren't too rusted.

There's a bunch of choices on Ebay under "clutch head".

I just found some of those 3/8 drive clutch head sockets,on a socket rail, at a swap meet yesterday, paid $15 for a set of 7 or so, short and long shank. Check your local swap meets, it was at one of the vendors who sell the misc. new tool and such.

If you're having trouble removing them, then they're called "@#@#$&!! screws."

Amen Tom - been doing a lot of that lately, and a lot more to go - that's what I call the little dears.

Just a suggestion from a person parting 1-2 of these trucks a month soak everything in PB Plaster or similar the day before if you can. Also have a pair of vice grips with good teeth because if you strip them you can usually get them started again that way.

I actually like them.

If you use a little patience (better defined as PB Blaster or heat) 95% will come out. It also helps to use something sharp to clean out the head where the driver goes in. Most of the clutch head screws are hardened and stand up to the driver way better that a common slotted screw

PB blaster soak, then a tap from a hammer and most will come out

Thanks everyone..Since I'll likely use allen wrench or phililip head types I'll try soaking and taping off center with a punch to see if I can get them started.
