Can anyone tell me if there is an aftermarket trailer hitch available for my 1950 1/2 ton? I wouldn't ever be pulling anything heavy, just a light utility trailer, etc. I invision one that would bolt onto the rear of the frame somehow and not the bumper. Have never seen one for sale.

Drawtite probably makes one. That's what I have on my '58.

This post piqued my interest so I checked out the Drawtite® site and the oldest trailer hitch they offered is for a '63 Chevy/GMC.
Wouldn't most any reputable trailer/trailer hitch place be able to fabricate one?

you will have to look at frame width and length of mounting surface and depth to clear the bumper ,and length of tube to extend past the bumper . available ,and go to some body that stock's them and will let you measure and compare

The common way to mount a trailer hitch in the early 50's was a hitch that clamped on the OEM bumper. Very few people used them because when you dropped the tail gate, it would hit the trailer hitch. People that actually pulled heavier trailers, installed bumpers that were recessed to allow the the tail gate to drop. These bumpers were either dealer installed or bought through the aftermarket. Many were fabricated on the farm, but most all had a recess for the tail gate and wrapped around the corners to protect the rear fenders.

I was going to suggest along the line of what crenwelge said. Those clamp on ball hitches come up from time to time on Ebay. I have one I found in the back of a 48 3/4 ton. I got the hitch plus the jack and lug wrench. I would have taken the whole truck, but didn't have a place for it. I plan to haul my BBQ pit around with it, once I get to retire.

On my 57 Suburban, I have an unknown hitch, but what is nice is that the hitch actually comes out throuhg the stock bumper, it is out by less than an inch. When towing, obviously, you have to put the ball in, but it is a nice clean set-up.

Measure your frame and where you want the stinger to land. I gave the measurements to a local Drawtite dealer and he ordered it. It took me about 5 hours to install it, but I'm slow.

Well, well, good suggestions all. Thanks everyone for the good comments. I guess "store bought" hitches aren't available, so I'll put one on my wish list and get one fabricated from Drawtite one day. But..there's plenty on the list ahead of it.

That's a great looking hitch. Looks pretty simple too. I'll look under my 1/2 ton and try to imagine what a fabricated hitch might look like under there. I have no welder, so I can't fab one.

FLAPS have adjustable hitches from reece. they have a sliding cross bar. i don't know if the depth up and down would work but you cant try and return it if it doesn't work, especially at auto zone. ron

On my truck, I had an old frame hitch off an 80's Ford 3/4 ton. I cut the welds, slid it together, welded it back together, an bolted it to my truck. And, it sticks out, but it makes a great step, as my truck is so tall.
