Hi Guy's,
1952 '3600'
Hope someone can help me quickly as this is my daily driver.

I have noticed a vibration from the drive shaft over the past few weeks Slowly getting worse. Tonight i checked underside the vehicle along the drive shaft and have found a little oil seeping from the pinion seal on the diff and some movement there also.
I am sure this is the problem.
Is the pinion bearing easy to change ?? I have noticed some bolts holding on some kind of cover, is this for the seal or will this give me access to the bearing? Or do i have a major job on my hands here?
Any help from you guys would be gratefully received as i use this truck every day and need to cure this problem.
Kind Regards
Tim

The short answer is that is you have lateral movement in the yoke, you have a major repair on your hands. The shop manual will show you the steps to take it apart. If it is just a seal than it is not a big deal. For the seal you remove the yoke with a big air gun and socket. Slide the yoke off and remove the bolts that hold the cover containing the seal.

Hy Tom Newton, you most hold the pinion yoke with a large Stillson [pipe] wrench, if you don't do this you take a chance of breaking a tooth on the crown or pinion gear when removing the yokes retaining nut with a large impact wrench, hope that helps

Managed to sort out the pinion bearing play by removing the yoke and then the bearing to reveal a spacer. I then machined 2 thou at a time off the spacer until the play in the bearing was taken up 10 thou in total. All is just fine now, no more play = no more vibration.
