You can end up with a polished piece of metal so go slow and use something without grit in it because it will scratch. That stuff will soften a mother in law's heart. I would think it would eat any paint it came into contact with. I guess if you've used it & were successful you must know. I wasn't able to remove the paint that was on mine without removing the original paint and had to buy a repop.
