I'm trying to figure out what engine is actually in my 1947 2 ton. It originally came with a 216, but some people have looked at the pictures and said it's a 235. How can I tell the difference?

It should have came with a 235ci according to my records. I have the original 1947 truck manual for mine and it says that the 2 tons had 235. These 235's had poured rod bearings and were dip lubricated, and from what I've heard tend to have blown up long ago and replaced with newer pressure lubricated engines.
So I can bet what you have is not the original engine.
I gave you some info via a personal message, and I found the casting numbers site
One way to tell if a swap occurred is if your radiator has been moved forward you have a different engine.
Have a good one,

I asked Dad about it again, and he said the engine's not original. It's a 235 out of a '56. The rear end's not original either, but he can't remember what it was from. Other than that, it's an all original truck, and I want to keep it that way.

Jared,

If you want more detailed information about your 1956 engine, post the various casting codes, casting dates, and engine serial number, and people will be able to help you with more information about your engine.

Tim
