That is not good for an engine especially a carbureted one. Do you see black smoke? Pull a spark plug or 2 out & see if it has a lot of black carbon on it. It might be like Red says just a misreading gas gauge. If it is rich, you need some carb work or adjustments.

I have pulled the sprak plugs and they were black as soot.
