They are not hard to remove on these old trucks. Remove the hoses & 3-4 nuts on long studs on the engine side & remove the heater after dissconnecting defroster hose & wire. Dissasemble the heater & remove the core. You can take it to a radiator shop & they might be able to fix it but most of the time it will need a new one.

One tip was if your truck has the recirculator heater, a well fitting heater core can be found in a 66 Mustang.
