The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Gas smell in truck

My 55 has the odor of gas in the truck - I have looked over all connections and lines and all ok - but on filler the cap does not have any rubber grommet and leaves quite an open space down to the filler tube from where the cap is. Is this the correct way for them to fit or is there a grommet or rubber seal missing.

Im not a 55 expert but i would think there should be a grommet. to seal the filler line against the cab.
I am sure the pros on your yr. will fill ya in on all the gremlins that can kreep up and cause that nasty smell in your truck.

when I removed my gas tank to paint the interior , I noticed a very small amount of residue coming from the seam of my gas tank . It always seemed to smell a little gassy but I just attributed it to old truck smell . concidering the age of the truck I would assume the tank is at fault , but then again you know what they say about assuming.

it could be the gasket on the top of the tank where the gas level sending unit is.
