I had a junk 235 carb that had a good throttle body on it. I just swapped the throttle body to the good 216 Rochester that I also had from replacing the 216 engine. It worked fine.

You just have to remove the rings on the intake port. Had worked fine so far (couple hundred miles). Good Luck.

Should I use the thicker spacer? Otherwise assume jets etc. are fine right? Hate to waste it.

I might have steered you wrong..not the first time I did this though. The book indicates bolt spacing on a 216 CI is 2 5/8" and the spacing on a 235 CI is 2 15/16". This is out of rat tail file territory I think. I don't know if any jetting would be smaller on the 216 engine as opposed to the larger 235. I thought I had seen a post from carbking earlier indicating the cubic inch difference had to be greater than that before the carburetor was re-jetted. If the carburetor fits, or can be made to fit easily, it won't cost you anything to try it.
