The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Windshield leaking

Last spring I put my windshield in the 48,and it has leaked every time it rains.So here is what I'm up against,when I got the glass cut I brought them a original glass for them to use.But when I got them the corners were cut a little wrong,but I was told that it wouldn't be a problem.Then I used the cheap seal,and didn't use any sealer.So what I would like to know is,can I go back and put sealer under the lip of the seal,and what would be the best stuff to use that I can get at the local auto parts store?

Well,...if theres a cap ( moulding )that goes on top of the seam which I ASSUME. Theres a product called RESCUE 911. Its a clear spray on formula for roofing etc. Spray on,..no more leaks,....works great. $20a can. It comes in a clear can,...thats the fast fix. If shes a beauty runway queen. I,d start all over, and have them do it again.

No it just has the rubber seal,without chrome.Sorry should have put that in there.

This problem has been tackled before......It's a common fault.
If the glass is the wrong shape it cannot physically 'push' the rubber out to the aperature(where it's supposed to be)
A lot of the aftermarket glass is poorly shaped too,result...water leaks.

To be told it's not a problem is wrong!Judging by the fact it leaks seems to confirm this......

As IsolationRide said, if it's a show truck re-do them.
If you don't want to go down that road,your only option is to try and seal them in situ.
There are many sealants available,try contacting another 'reputable' glass shop. They would be able to suggest something suitable.Personally I would use a urethane based sealant.That's my preference.
As long as it's not silicone!

It's more a work truck,but it would still be nice to have it right.
I did some looking and found this 3M stuff at NAPA,I'm going to order some and try it.This is what they have written on it>>>

Non-Hardening, Pliable, Water-Resistant, Medium-Bodied Sealer For Sealing Auto Seams & Between Windshield Rubber & Car Body. Can Be Used As A Supplementary Sealer For Auto Glass Installation.

NAPA has a urethane windshield sealant that comes in a tube that is applied with a caulking gun. It dries firm and you can apply it around the gasket at the glass side and at the body edge, and/or you can lift the gasket a little and put the tip of the tube under the gasket and apply. It works great and lasts.

The 3m stuff will be easier to clean up, and you can get the glass out to replace, without cutting the gasket up.
