I was about ready to start the installation of the better steering wheel when I looked in the tech tips area and seen the part that goes under the wheel has a anti rattle rubber ring,I order one from chevs of the 40s along with a couple other things to make it worth the shipping cost and guess what the rubber ring has no ETA and they shipped the order before I could cancle it. So does anyone know if Jim Carters sells it (I have a very old catalog) or could a O ring be made to work so those of you with a 41-6 what have you used for that part.

I was not able to find a good replacement (does not mean there is not one out there - I just did not find one) and have my old cracked one still in there.

Good luck

Tim

I think I found one at Jim Carters and ordered it,I should of tried there since chevs of the 40s did not have the horn button and had no ETA on it too and Jim carter did. I told them at chevs of the 40s to put a note on my accouint notify me if a part is not available before shipping.

I ordered one from J Carters. It took a little longer to receive than normal. I haven't used as of yet. If you need in a hurry I'll mail it to ya and you just mail yours to me. I'm a far cry from using

Now that there is a great example of 'Bolter's helping 'Bolter's and I learned something in the process.

Its not hard to get the horn to work but there are a few parts and nost are available, the only part that I did not see available is the part under the steering wheel. I installed a relay on mine and do not know how it was originaly wired and it works great now.

Interesting thread. I didn't even know there was a anti-rattle rubber ring! My horn doesn't work either. Mostly because there is a short in the wire running down the stearing wheel shaft. It's something I've got to address to get it working again. Got a new horn button from JC because I know I'll probably destroy the old one when trying to remove it. Lot of little parts in there!!

BTW, that old horn is LOUD!! eek

I'm lucky . . . my truck came with an AUTOMATIC HORN.

All I have to do is turn the wheel, and it alerts people without being told.

Guess that was a special feature in '41 . . .

HA!!! that's great. Anybody have some good diagrams or photos on how all these parts come together? Looking at the original wiring diagram I don't even see a relay.

Kip, that's the first I've seen your tech tip on the horn set up. I see you were able to use my pictures of the button assembly. You certainly did a much better job than I ever could have.

That's what this place is all about. A cabloration of information to make the best site of it's kind on the web.
