The guy who's renovating my 63 GMC has hit a problem with re-fitting the windshield.

Glass broke when he took it out so he's fitting a new one. I had supplied him with a new (as I thought) weatherstrip which I had bought in Canada in 2007.

Problem is that the glass keeps popping out in one corner. He has consulted a professional fitter, whose opinion is that the replacement rubber was probably old stock and had lost some of its elasticity. He tried heating it up in water to soften it but no luck.

Anyone come across this problem before and can suggest a fix? No alterations to the metal whilst the windshield was out, BTW, just cleaned rust off and re-painted.

Got a new weatherstrip coming to me off e-bay, but is it likely that I'll have the same hassles?

Need the truck on the road ASAP since I'm getting married in a few weeks and both future wife and I want the truck to be part of the wedding!

sounds like the shape of the windshield to me, check the fit without the rubber, just use some wood blocks to position it

Kev...as Bill(red58) mentions the glass may be at fault.Try a 'dry' run without the rubber as Bill suggests,this should show up any anomalies.
These screens are formed on a buck,the glass is heated and sags into the finished shape,it could be you have a bad 'un!(It does happen I'm afraid!)
Another possibility is the glass isn't centred properly in the aperature. Are you starting the fitting from the centre?
If you start the 'string in' from the side it will 'kick' the glass over to one side,giving the problem you describe.
We've had similar problems with Scania 4 series trucks which have heavy curves at each end.
I hope this gives you some pointers.I DO hope it's the latter problem!

Lubrication helps the glass/rubber center itself as it is installed. Check to be sure if there is a secondary flap that it is laying in properly.

It may help to start the ropes from the top/center {the trick for the mid '60's Chevy PUs with the sharp 90 deg upper corners}

Strip's here, quick moment of sheer panic last night when I thought it was the wrong one, big credit to both the seller (azrestorations) and USPS for fast delivery!
