Placement of the louvers and the quantity is something that needs to be planned. My buddy added them to the top of the hood of his 40 Tudor to relieve excessive engine heat which was effecting his engine performance.

After recognizing they were doing a great job of moving the hot air, he found that he couldn't use the cowl vent without flooding the inside of the car with hot air. In addition he carries a shower curtain to cover his engine (after it cools down) to keep the rain from soaking everything.

He had to add a/c to compensate for the lack of cowl vent air...so it was discovered that his radiator was partially clogged up when they added the condensor. He sheepishly jokes that his 60 louvers cost him $30.00 each.

Just something to consider.......

All I thought was the look, but I also like my cowl vent
and plan to use it alot until I can get the $$$$$$$$for the a/c.

Something else to kick around....is a/c really going to give you the right bang for your buck? Like most folks down here in the "Steamy Swamp", I added A/C not as an option but as an essential. Along with the split/slider back window it went in before the truck was even on the road.

After we hit the pavement running, I discovered that using the cowl vent/open slider/driver's window full down/vent window at 50% and the pass side window down only an inch/pass vent full closed...I could motor along with GREAT airflow. There was NO wind buffetting/noise inside the cab even at turnpike speeds and I could enjoy the scenery without being all shut up inside the cab. In contrast, even though I went a bit overboard with the heat and sound proofing/door/window seals, there was more wind noise with the cab all closed up and the a/c pumping away. Whoda thunk?

Most times that I've used the a/c, has been in heavy traffic with slow speeds. I've figured out that using alternate routes around heavily congested areas gives me more time to enjoy driving my old truck and enjoying the scenery!! So am I saying scratch the air? Not necessarily.....but I'd place the a/c a little further down on the "must have" list and see if you could get more bang for your buck from some other options.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!!

I'm like u Dave,
I love to cruize and enjoy the road like the Blue Ridge Parkway @45 mph, but setting at the summer time stop lights shure get hot. I'm gonna build everything possible for my 327 but the problem I have is the 300 DH heads do not have holes for the A/C brackets or anything else so finding the bracket$$$$ will set me back a bit. I have mounts for the P/S box made,and I will figure out some kind of way to mount the pump and pullys together.
I'm sure someone can figure out what to do with the A/C.
Till then I love my vents! Thats why I didnt putty them up.
They are part of my truck and I would not change that for anything.(still hav'nt made up my mind yet about the louvers :))

houston 54 may have put louvers on the side of the hood, maybe 8-10 per. that way it keeps the rain out of the engine compartment.
he did a mock up by taping the premade strip of louvers onto the side of his hood and took photos from differend angles. let them sit for a few days to get used to the idea and location. maybe that's something you could do is mock up a set.
