Does anybody know where I can find a lower gear set for my truck? this 5.88 is gonna kill me drivin around town.1st gear will NEVER
be used and the highway is somthing I can only wave at.I can find gear sets for the half ton,but the 3/4 ton seems to be a bastard left off ALL parts lists. ANY HELP would surely be welcome here.I'm hoping somebody out there has the knowledge that I'm not aware of.PLEASE e-mail me with any and all solutions. Not buildin a trailer [censored],just want to be comfortable and safe.
Thanks for all and any help!!!!!!!!!!

Your stock gears should be 4.57 or possibly 5.14 (optional).
There are no aftermarket sets available. The best possible scenario for that rear is to find a 4.10 third member from a '67 to '72. It is a bolt in, but they are hard to find.
Use the search feature for more info.

Lower gears are SLOWER gears.

Sounds like you're looking for higher, faster, gears; and the above advice is good.

consider changing the whole rear end, and the front axle to a 1/2 ton. your rear should be approx 62 inches wide overall

Got my set of 4:11s by placing a 'WANTED' ad here on the bolt. These are out of a later 60s 3/4 ton and in addition to a better highway speed it really helped going through all the gears, just much better around town as well.

Maybe you could put in a leaf spring 8 lug Dana 60 from a 70's truck. Not sure if the width is right. I think you can get a 3.50 gear set for the Dana. You can get a 3.23 gear set for a GM 14 bolt 8 lug truck rear end. Might be easier and cheaper though to conver it to 1/2 ton axles.

I agree with Texas. During my searches, the best I've been able to come up with is a 3.90 gearset for the 54 and that was with a later model center section. A torch and welder can make just about any late model rearend fit under your truck. Your best bet would be to start looking under 3/4 and 1 ton vans. Most of them already have 3.73 or 3.55 gears. I don't thing converting to a 1/2 rear of the same era would be real viable due to the fact they are torque tube setups and your 3/4 ton is most likely not.
