i have a 55 second series truck that i took out the 235 6 and installed a late model 350 v8 71, 72 model 350 and i got a steel bell housing for the conversion that fits the 350 and bolts to the cross member like the 235 bell housing did and im having starter problems i baught a new starter that will bolt up to the bell housing i have and etc and if i leave the starter off and get underneath i can turn the motor with my hands from the flywheel but if i install the starter and hook power to the starter it wont turn the motor the starer drive goes out and just clicks wont spin the motor and i take the new starter off and test it works great i made sure that the starter drive aint filled up witht he flywheel teeth and etc what could be my problem could i have a bad flywheel or etc???

Frankly we are a bunch who would rather see someone take a V8 out and install a inline six. That is what this site is about - stovebolts. Don't mean to be rude but the name of the place kind of says it all. In spite of that someone may help you.

Take the solenoid off the starter and install the starter. Manually engage the starter and see if the engine will turn over by hand IN THE DIRECTION OF ENGINE ROTATION. If it turns over then you need to make sure your electrical connections are good-particularly the ground. Remember the starter grounds through the bell housing so make sure the battery ground cable is attached to the engine.

found the problme with the 350 i installed in my 55 1/2 ton where i built it and it has a 5-16 cam i didnt have a good enouhgt battery to turn it over not it spings fine witha 700 cca battery.
