This is a common problem when installing the t5 on a 235 in an AD truck. Can't speak for the 230 but imagine if you shortened the input shaft as well as the T.O. bearing retainer shaft you might be experiencing the same issues with the disc not sliding to the rear enough to disengage.
I've covered the modifications and install in my webshots "Shoebox" album.
I can't say that the Astro pp wouldn't work....before I took it down, I'd extend my clutch rod a little. As long as the clutch disengages and you've got free play adjustment in the pedal I don't see why it wouldn't work. You might get lucky!

If you have an aluminum bell housing and the tranny tail sits on a cross member then all you need is the Astro disc.

Les what is the difference in the bellhousings in regards to the mods to a t5 installation other than the mounting to clarify . if one has a 283 w/cast bellhousing and a 283 w/aluminim b/housing what is the difference with the installation

I found a stock mount just a tad too tall and was concerned with putting a bind on anything. The difference in the bell housings is how far back from the engine block the transmission mounting flange is located. I do know that the aluminum bell housing is "deeper" than the cast iron one by about 3/4". I don't know why. I'll look into it and see what I can find.

I am just trying to fathom the difference between the housu=ings as it should still be the same measure from the face of thre bellhousing through to the pilot bushing in either housing; therefore the frt brg retainer (T5) should be in the same relative space in either housing in relationship to the clutch disc (unless there are varying lenghtd in T5 frt brg reatainers and some get lucky in their install. there may be a different? ball stud in an aluminum housing that may have a bearing on the depth of the release brg. a thinner flywheel can have a bearing on clearances though or machining of a flywheel could possibly make up the differnce for vlearance on the return of the clutch disc not picking at you , just trying to understand what the variances could be that makes the housings different thanks ron | | |
