Here's what I got: Chevrolet Dump Truck - 1940 Master. Dually tires, closed driveline.

The transmission is shot.

Truck also needs a floor shifter pan, and the front glass upper cowl sheet metal...(sheetmetal above the front windows...inside the cab.)

But here is what I am trying to figure out:

What type of 4 speed transmission went into the 1.5 ton 1940 Master? and what would have been an original motor?

The casting number on the top pof the tranny and adjacent to the stick is: (possibly a ("C") L 289.

The reverse shift is mounted on the shift stick with a pull up type of small lever just below the shift knob.

The ID tag on right door pillar was hard to read but the number is: 2WA0311095 "Master"

Could not find a serial number on the motor boss left of the distributor. It may be a replacement motor. The Block cast code below that was GM 38941

The old State registration had this number: Master TB1614552ad31109 6500 POUNDS. 29 HP.

I'm looking for some help to solve the mysteries:

What type of tranny do I need to find?

Thank you for your help.

tom

Hy tom moore, your serial number 2WA0311095 breaks down as follows
Year 1940
1 1/2 ton
133" wheelbase
manufactured in Tarrytown N.Y.
All of that information was obtained on this site, by going to the tech tips section at the top of the page, clicking on identify your truck, and scrolling down to the VIN Buster, then enter you serial number or VIN. As to your transmission it is a four speed, with a reverse lockout lever, its designation escapes me at the moment, but it is the correct transmission for your truck. The engine would have, been a 216 Chevy 6, hope that helps.

Jim Carter or The Filling Station have been my parts sources for my 1 1/2 ton. That and checking Ebay at least once a week.

Thanks for the information. I tried finding out the transmission manufacturer and can't seem to nail that down. Who is the manufacturer? and would it be a HD tranny? I assume it is. Would it be an early Muncie? or Saginaw?

Any idea who rebuilds these? or may have one?

Thank you.
