Mine was last licensed in 1982 and looks like that was when it last ran. The wiring was frayed, mud nest in the carb, sludge/water in the pan. Engine wouldn't turn. All rubber components were shriveled up or missing.

Dumped liberal amounts of PB Blaster in cylinders and head. Rewired the essentials, rebuilt carb, new fuel pump, temp. gas can, rebuilt distributor, new coil, new spark plug set. Slowly started to turn engine with 12 volt battery. Eventually got turning good. Flushed fluids again, retimed the engine, and eventually got to fire!

After several attempts at adjusting the distributor and the carb, I have it running fairly well. It only blew blue/gray smoke the first 10 minutes and I haven't seen anything since. I now have put maybe 40 miles on during the summer in a private subdivision. Just in case I've aquired another 216 and a 235 engine/transmission.

I got my truck in '03 and it had '76 license plates. It looked like it had been that long since started. Motor was stuck: lots of penetrating oil in spark plug holes, Drained/changed oil, new spark plugs and wires, filed/adjusted old points, after 2 weeks of patience a new 6 volt battery and started turning it over with the starter. Disassembled/cleaned carb, temp gas can, clean water in the radiator - and it started. It ran about 20-30 minutes with the old hoses and fan belt when the belt gave way.
Aren't old trucks fun!! 5 1/2 years later and I have yet to take the head off. New water pump, some radiator work, new belts/hoses and some gaskets. smile Runs great!

Put the fuel line in a five gallon can & charged the battery overnight. What do you know, ran like a sewing machine yahoo Couldn't drive it down the street thought, brakes were locked up

In the process of rebuilding it now
