The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts Brake master Cylinders

I was thinking that because I need a replacement master cylinder I would update my 1 1/2 ton truck to a safer newer style double master cylinder. Does anyone know what year would be an easy install for my 1946 1 1/2 ton? I would like to keep the master cyl under the floor and I can make a new bracket but I would like to use some of the same linkage. I looked at the hydrovac unit in the tech tips but it looks like it would be a hard to find unit. Any ideas?

Nothing that would be an easy swap over, and if the wheel cylinders are new or rebuilt you really don't need one, modifing brakes and such sorta spook me on stuff like this, 1 its not enginered for the swap and 2 if an accident was to occur and fatilitys were to happen there is a possibility the local highway patrolman may do a through inspection, if some part of the modification had failed you could be liable.

I certainly want to make it safer. I'll make sure I do some thourough research.

I have a 1946 big bolt. I replaced all the wheel cylinders and brake linning. I checked for a new master cylinder and realized for under fifteen dollars a I was able to rebuild the oringal one under the floor board. I can send some one through the windshied with the rebuilt master cylinder. I always believed that if its not broke don't fix it. Try and rebuild the one you have first and try it. Oh by the way, I was able to get the rebuild kit at the local Car Quest supply parts store.
