Would it possibly work on a 283 or will the ports be to differnt. Both engines are stock at the moment. Would the change even be worth it? Or, do I even have a clue as to what I'm talking about? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 403 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 403 | If its a Edlebrock you can go to their web site and it states that the preformer will fit from 262 - 400 cu. in. engines. I am sure some of the others have the same type info. 62Blue Don

After 86 the 4 center bolt holes are straight up & down. Some manifolds are slotted to work with both. An performance aluminum intake is a good modification. Besides better runners they knock 25 lbs off the front & transfer heat better. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. If that's what you have then you must replace the valve covers to a later style with the hole or else no way to put oil into the engine. I think that was changed around 63-64 or thereabouts. The aftermarket aluminum's have no filler tube provision. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,844 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,844 | Compare the size of the ports. If the 350 manifold has ports noticeably bigger then the 283 heads, a step will be created that makes for extreme turbulence in the head passages. You would need to port-match the heads to the manifold runners. Not a terribly difficult task, but there's a risk of hitting water or grinding through the head if you haven't done a port-match before. Jerry

Soon as I can find a 4 barrel carb to rebuild, I'm going to put it on and see what it'll do. Then I get to pull and rebuild my 3spd. 2nd starting to slip. | | |
