I have a 55 Gmc Ambulance that was at the Town Firestation as a Civil Defence Ambulance.....

Can this go here?????? It was part of the Fire Dept.

Of course John is in charge of being in charge but I would think rescue vehicles of all types would go in here. In our area most fire departments and rescue squads are intergral to each other. Most are volenteer and the people answer either kind of call.

john i wouldnt put that ambulance in your station !!! we got two ems rigs in our station, and all they do is get in the way of our big red FIRE trucks, !! and get backed in to ..............oopps ha ha ha the micksterr

mick -- good point. Can we just tell them to park in the seperate facility adjacent to the fire house (and with a separate driveway?)

That's how our local EMS does it -- big red trucks in one buiding, white boxes in the other.

Most real firehouses that I have been to have a few bays and the Ambulance units have their own bays..

We respect Firefighters as Most Medics that I know have been cross trained to run the pumps on your firetrucks.

I think the Ambulance guys deserve a little more respect.

Just Think. If you fell in a building on fire all your buddies can do is splash a litte water on you and carry you out. Then what?

But, Really... No firehouse is complete without the Ambulance/Support Truck.

The Ambulance Unit I have is a CD Unit and was used in the firehouse for a back up ambulance and support truck. It had extra oxygen and tools etc. It was not designed just for a ambulance.

We have our 3 ambulances in the same building but they have their own bays. We automatically take an ambulance to every fire call to be on stand by just in case.
Most of our members are trained as EMTs/First Responders and are certified fire fighters

There's no denying the trend in the Fire Service is toward Medical. In St. Louis County, EVERY Medical call is accompanied by the engine (ostensibly for crew). The only difference in most calls, is whether the engine leads the ambulance out of the firehouse, or vice-versa. EVERY hired Fire Fighter is now an EMT at least, if not full-fledged Paramedic.

In St. Louis City, Probationary Fire Fighters have one year to accomplish their EMT-Basic acredditation, or it's bye-bye. The pumpers go out on "sick cases" more than any other calls in most houses, and very often the dispatch is followed by "Medic Unit has an extended ETA . . .". Most of the Fire Fighters hate this, but there's lots more need for Paramedics these days than structural fire fighting.

That is, until THE BIG ONE hits . . .

I think some out there think that there is no cross training.

My 55 gmc has had a sad look to it when it read the previous posting.

I have nothing against ambulances as long as we're saving them from the scrap pile.

In real life, most old firefighters hate ems roles but it is what we do on the job. Times change and somebody has to help the hurt folks. It might as well be the firefighters as we are trained, ready and able to help no matter what it takes. Like it or not, there is an ambulance in the future for every firefighter and fire station. Why should the Stovebolt department be different?

Park the box and have a cup of joe with the rest of us...

OK, "ambliances" in our SVFD firehouse is fine, but we have standards here! Just like I expect (suggest, cajole, encourage) every pumper to have a working pump, some hose, and a minimum of fire equipment, I'll be recommending to the Chief that our SVFD medic units have oxygen equipment, first aid supplies, and a proper gurney, so I can get my afternoon nap!!!

Just to let you have an idea of what My Unit Had. Being a CD unit. They only had Basic Med Kit,fold up gurney (total of 2) Under the Bench was Blankets and Water and Fire Ex.(Total of 2) a Hand held Lite and Portable Lights. (Very Common units also, found on Fire units.

That was It. Not Very Much. Very Basic unit. But, Very Cool

With all of us Young ( at heart ) geezers in the SVFD it would be foolish to not the Ambulances included if for no other reason than to provide our own members aid after a disagreement (LOL). What a dream... But, For real life. and being only 28 and single. Someday when the right woman comes along who enjoys the many vintage truck and cars I have. I would hope she would be interested in getting a uniform to look the part. Just Like I plan on with the 35 Army Trucks I now have.

I need Money if anyone has extra. We do look for donations to finish the restoration on these projects. At least with the CCC army Trucks I have. Some day we will have a non profit status but, for now.... well... we do what we can.

We will need nurses for the CCC Living history museum as well.

It would be cool to have the gals like the ones painted on those old Bommers the guys once painted on the airplanes.
