What I did hasn't worked out very well. I used a Lokar cable and found it to be a waste of money if you run it anywhere near your exhaust (the heat of the exhaust binds the cable inside the sheathing). Not only that, but I've found that long throttle cables (as in the type setup we end up having when trying to mount 4 barrels on our straight six engines) tend to not give very good throttle response.
I started fabricating a throttle bracket about six months or so ago and never got around to finishing it. Many people here have surrendered their difficult, inefficient throttle cables for custom made throttle linkages and have not regretted. I hope to be the next one!
