on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 32 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 32 | OK, I'm an idiot. I bought this truck in '06. Well I never got around to getting the title in my name. And the PO had put a date on it. Missouri charges $25 a month late fee, so that comes to $750. So I guess I'm gonna sell the whole thing for cheap or part it out. Any suggestions on getting a title for a lot cheaper? This truck would only be worth about $1200 with a good title. Oh, well! Live & learn. Scott | | | | | | ZooKeeper Unregistered | | ZooKeeper Unregistered | Scott, is your name anywhere on the title?? What does it cost to title it IF there were no fees?? I ask because in some states the date means NOTHING after a certain time and if your name isn't on it even better. I believe Illinois it doesn't matter after a few years. Cost under $100 over here. Let me make a call & if what I say is true, heck sign it over to me & when the title come in I'll sign it back over to you. "Sell" it to a bolter down there, and have him sell it back to you after a few days. Problem solved! Jerry

Yeah, unfortunately my name is on the back as purchaser. So, I guess the only way is to sell on bill of sale, get title in Illinois, then "sell" back to me? Maybe I can try getting a title myself by using a bill of sale. You know, pretend I never got a title. I would just go ahead & sell, but I don't want anybody having title troubles. The charge to title would only be about $50 without penalties. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 | This reminds me of when I bought my 68 truck. It had been sitting for over 5 years, and no fees paid. Before buying it I went down to the DMV and had them run the VIN. The VIN couldn't be found, so no back fees due. I bought the truck, did some work on it, replaced cam and put a kit in the carb. The truck was running good so I went back to the DMV. I gave the pink slip to the clerk and they did all the calculations and said $750 please. OUCH When I did the first check at the DMV it had reactivated record (mainframe computers do that)and I was tagged for all the late fees. Larry

After doing some digging I found a form on the Texas DMV site that stated the types of vehicles that are exempt from late fees. I'm really starting to hate living in MO (or Misery as I call it). I might try going to a different DMV. The local one is known to be somewhat inept. Zookeeper...Let me know if you find out anything. I have done some research and here in Kansas there is a thing called a quite title that is done at the court house for this kinda this. They just make sure it is not a stolen vehicle and if the title is not contested in a certain amount of time...poof the title appears. 1949 Chevy 4400 GrainbedIn the Stovebolt GalleryPhotobucket picturesThe taxpayers are sending congressmen on expensive trips abroad. Scott Scott, I called & asked about it & Illinois SOS says that it can't be done because your name & the person you got it from name is on it. Sounds like you need to find someone in Kansas unless your SOS can fix it for you...Joe | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 | every time i tried to do it, i found out it was too expensive, and too hard. like getting a judge to award it to me- absolutly silly. just call with the vin before you buy iy to make sure it wasn't stolen or not in system, then go thru a title company- unless you live in a state where the dmv uses their brain. none of these junkers sitting in a field are going to be stolen! if they are the owner doesn't want them back or pay back taxes on them anyway. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 513 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 513 | Kansas may be different form Missouri, I ask a lady who work for the state of kansas DMV and she told me what she would to skip the hassle is just "forget" you have the title, have a friend write you out a bill of sale and then file for replacement title. Don't even mention you have the title or how long you have owned the truck to the DMV. They might only give you a salavge title, but it's better than nothing.
