I found a much nicer one than I had and swapped out to it, and the screw holes etc. match, but the filler hole is in a different place. is this is big deal? I dont see any interferences etc. also the one I got rid of had a tap in the side w/ a 3 inch rubber hose hanging out of it that was plugged, this one does not. the other one didnt seem to be being used.

Over the years i've noticed that the location of the oil filler hole appears to have been determined by year of the engine be it a 236 or 261. The hole on the side of the cover can only be for a pvc valve/hose to the intake. So long as the holes line up and your ok with the location of the oil filler hole be happy.

No worries. However, the PCV hole on the side of the valve cover should be covered/plugged (if you do not have a PCV).

Thats a great list, thanks. The changed location of the valve cover oil fill hole will not cause a problem. Try hooking up the valve cover to a pvc valve and tee into your intake manifold. You may have to retune your air fuel screw on the carb and possibly the timing if you are sucking oil fumes.
