I can see buying one if your truck is really rusty or incomplete. I was wondering how many of you have purchased a parts truck so you would have spare parts for your decent truck or a truck you were restoring.

The question is, was it worth it or would you have been better off just buying used parts as you needed them.

I paid $100.00 for my 51 1 ton. It needed a front fender, hood strip and passenger running board and other odds and ends. I found a 48 1 ton for parts and paid $300.00. It had the stuff I needed. I have also sold over $300.00 worth of parts to others redoing their trucks. Anybody need some parts? I still have a few things left. Jerry

No parts truck for me cause I have nowhere reasonable to store it. I currently have parts and pieces on mine from 18 states and 2 countries. All through this site, UPS & USPS work fine, can’t say the same for Greyhound.

Good Point!

I have a barn on a farm that I keep a couple parts cars for our other toys, some times you have no choice but to buy new/new used but if you can get a complete as possible whole truck/car go for it. It's worth it IMO thumbs_up

Early December there was a $500 64-6 910 for sale here but it and the trailer were snow stuck. The seller "was" going to call me when he could get it out, I went to hospital, lost his number, and I don't have a parts truck! frown

It took 11 years but we got "an ol' truck",
was driven daily, now short drives only frown

Have several parts trucks stored on a friends ranch most are good enough to be restoration trucks one is a true parts truck . If you have a free storage area and buy it at a good price you do save money on having them . I've just pulled a good transmission cover for a 4 speed and the best thing is you can't even buy a steel repro of this part . I spent $150 on the truck and still have a vast storehouse of parts . I've found every time I buy a parts truck it turns into another project...

Ed, I didn't know there was a steel repro available either until I stumbled on this the other day.
Not sure how the quality is, but as we all know, nothing fits like an original part!

I bought the parts truck FIRST.
It definitely paid for itself many times over. Just start pricing interior parts, or glass, or that wierd connector for the brake lines, of that one bed cross sill.
Oh yes, definitely worth it...
wink

My parts truck turned into my project truck. I also dismantled a few doodlebugs and a basket case too.

As has been mentioned if you have the space. I'm on the left coast. I've bought three parts trucks. The price has ranged from free to $300. The one that was free had a big utility bed on it. The utility bed went to scrap on a bent frame. I have not lost money on any of them, and made money on two. Everything can be sold. The biggest problem is shipping the doors, cab, and cowl piece under the front window. When I have space I'll do some more.

Even those that dont make it to your home are starting to be projects in my head! Dont worry, your COE is safe! grin

Yes, there are several parts trucks here. Its most certainly nice to have extra parts readily available. Its so much cheaper to buy a full truck then just a few parts to fix one. cool

I have a whole yard full of them. It's so nice to be able to pick-a-part right in your own back yard.

I have quite a few parts vehicles and it is a real luxury to pick a part out behind the barn. However, my wife doesn't seem to appreciate the beauty of it.

I have collected 3 parts trucks to restore one truck. It will take a few piece from each to complete this restoration back to stock.
I should have enough parts left over to built a rat rod if I want.
It is nice to have them at home too. Just keep them covered up a bit so the wife doesn't have look at them all the time.

I bought a parts truck when I started the '49 project, and used parts off that truck that I never dreamed I would need.
When I was finished with it, I sold it on ebay. If you have the room it is defintly worth while to have a parts truck, or maybe two.
