For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 49 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 49 | I have a 350 chevy motor with a 350 tranny, I have a 3:42 rear end from an S 10 blazer 4 wheel drive.Going to put it in a 40 1/2 ton pick up.What can I expect? I want to cruse at todays speeds, no hauling, just drive where I want and not be bogged down as I am now with the original rear end and tranny. Also I am converting the front to a mustang 2 ifs.

With those gears in a light truck I'd expect pretty spritely performance but going any distance on the highway you'll have lots of engine noise and burn more fuel than with on overdrive.
You'd have no trouble going any legal speed in this country. 30 years ago a combination very similar to that would have been common in factory trucks which still perform well in use today.

You will be fine. Those are decent gears. Good for the highway and also good for the kick in the pants on the street. I run a 3:73 posi in a 4spd Camaro. It winds up pretty quick but I run it on the highway for 10-20 mile distances. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,237 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,237 | I ran those gears with same trans and a 250 for years. Tires were 28" tall 235/75R15. RPM was around 2700 2800 at highway speeds.
