I am kicking the idea of leaving this engine but want to change trannys. It now is geared to high rpm at about55mph.Will probably change rear ends also.I have a 4/11 from a s10 blazer. I am open for input. What tran. will bolt up to this engine? will thr blazer rear end work well with the 6 banger. Automatic or 5 speed? what is the best combo. Ideas please. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 506 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 506 | Are those numbers from the head. Should be some good numbers, cast and stamped, on the distributor side of the block.

The choices for transmissions you can use is severely limited by that torque tube. You can get the pumpkin out of a 54-62 chevy 1/2 ton and move to an open driveline. 3.90 and 3.38 gears are available for the later open drive axle. Once you make the move to an open driveline, transmission choices increase. The T5 5 speed is very high on the list.
Of course with the need fo speed there is also the need for better braking. The stock brakes are not even close to being up to that task. | | |
