Can anyone let me know how easy is it to switch from a 6 lug to a 5 lug rear axle on my 1/2 ton 54 I believe I have a 70's rear end but am not sure of the exact one. Reason is I put in a Mustang 2 / 5 lug front end in. Shops I have checked quoted me just under 500 smackers. Seems like a lot of mulah. Thanx

the axle change isn't all that hard you just have to make sure you have the right size on this site there is a chart for complete messurments other than that it will just be a matter of matching spring perches to springs and you can get most perchs/shackles/springs from aftermarket sources fairly easy or if you have a good u-pull-it type salvage yard hand even better

You can actually have the current axles and drums plugged and re-drilled and you don't have to worry about changing anything else. Moser Engineering in Portland Indiana will do it and it's not all that expensive.
