I can't help you either, but that is sure a nice truck. The water bags and cooler are a real oddity now. The only trouble with those water bags in the front, for the uninitiated, is that if you drove very far and very fast, the water would taste like bugs. Then, if you hung them in back, they got mighty dusty, and the water might taste like mud. But they worked.

Man, that truck has it all! Did you manage to find 1953 air for the tires?

Nice job!!!

I don't know where to find one, but I'm sure you will. My usual due diligence is the EBay guys who seem somehow to come up with NOS and vintage parts. That is one fine looking truck Cal. I'm sure it has taken much time and patience -- not to mention $$s to get it all as vintage, as clean, and as together as you have. Thanks for sharing the pics. I wish I had your spotlight. Good luck on your search. Dale

What makes you think that it is a dealer accessory?

I'm not sure how important 'authenticity' is to you, but even if it wasn't an option back in '53, it would be fairly easy to replicate.
Just my 2c.

It is a nice truck though even if it isn't yours!

You know.... You could pick up an old box... and you can buy a reproduction sticker like that box and make your own....

or you could take a measurement and a photograph to a fabricator have them make you a box and then put the sticker on it.

Looking at all the books and sheets for GMC accessories we have collected here I never seen a tool box, tool bags yes.
My thought here is why would you need that many tools to take with you when you own a GMC truck. I would say that is the guys "show box" for his chairs, cooler, umbrella, and ham sandwich.

The guy I bought the truck from said his dad bought it new and he had that toolbox he said his dad got with it but it was so rusted and beat up I didn't want it.

The tools would be for my boat, extra launch lines, small tool bag, extra drain plugs, stuff like that, highly doubt the truck will need much attendance after I get her fixed. But boats always need a little work here and there, even new ones.
