It will have the big V-6 engine. It is a high torque engine at low RPM witch is good for a truck like that. Parts are harder to get for it then the Chevy V'8s. I would rather it had the 366 or 427 chev. engine. It probably has a 5 speed trans & either a twin screw rear ends or tag axle. It will make a good toy bbut if you are going to run up & down the road with it you need a diesel. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | | | | Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 942 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 942 | They are good trucks. I drove a '71 9500 that was the same color. I used to own a '67 7500. The V-6 gas is a good engine, but as stated above they are hard to find parts for. That would not stop me from owning one tho. They are also know for not so great gas mileage, but if you super-tune it, it should do OK. It most likely will be a 401 or 478 V-6.
Let us know what else you would like to know about it. I'd be curious to know what trans it has.

I found it for sale this morning,I have been looking for a "big bolt" for months, for a toy. There is not much info on these out there,so any and all info is appreciated,I might go look at it tomorrow.I am pretty sure it is a 7500,I think JM7500 or JV7500.On another note,I was told today you need a CDL to drive a truck with air brakes?

If you are planning on driving it on the street, you will need a CDL and check with your insurance agent. I am in the trucking business and have several old heavy trucks. I can insure them through JC Taylor because I can prove that they are collectors items, not feasabable to use in my fleet. If you only have one big truck, most insurance companies will assume that you will use it as a truck. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 13 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 13 | thanks for that info crenwelge, and C10 - C90 Bill,I was told it has a 5 speed with a browning 4 speed and an air locker rear end.

It looks like it is a 7500 Series.
Keep us posted.

I'm sure the owner will give you some pointers if you are not very familiar with it. You really won't need all the gears just to get it home, but you will need to use them when carrying some weight.
Sounds like a "Pulling Tandem" (All 8 rear wheels will drive when needed off road).

They are just sitin on it. They dont send the pix i want & wont say what the motor is or if it runs or what. They said they would get back to me & to just hold on. Also said it is not road worthey. It had been a yard truck. Said it would have to be halled. Tires are no good & some of the beads are loose from the rims. They sure are slow to get the info back to me. Bill what size & HP would the motors in there be, Its a V6 gas i think. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 942 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 942 | Repair, As mentioned earlier, I would say that it most likely would be a 401 or a 478 V-6. It looks like the 401 has 178 HP and the 478 has 206 HP, but these engine have big time torque! If either one is a Magnum engine, they will have about 20 HP more.
Did you try to get a phone number?

Just called them been 3 days, Havent had no E's or phone calls. Asked again fo E pix & motor size. Want to put a 20 to 22 ft. box & hoist on it, I would think maybe the HP would be to little, What do you think? It would hall 6 to 700+ bu. Around 40000# of corn + Box & hoist. 206 Hp I would think would be to small, I fixed up a truck that had 350 Hp it worked good. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 942 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 942 | It would hall 6 to 700+ bu. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 75 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 75 | It would be 40,000 Lbs, Corn is 56 lbs to a bushel dry. When it comes out of the field it's usually got to much moister in it so it weighs more. But 40,000 would be close. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 942 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 942 | Well, 40,000 lbs of weight would be too much for that truck. It could have Fronts as low as 7 and the Rears are most likely 34's. That would be 41,000 GVW. The truck with the box and hoist will be somewhere around 16,000. That would only give you a carrying capacity of 25,000. The 478 V-6 in that truck would have no problem pulling 25,000, but it would be a little slow getting up to speed. I used to pull 20,000 with 478 in a single axel truck and it had plenty of power. For cubic inches and HP the 478 is very strong. As mentioned earlier it has tons of torque.
