Are the doors from a 1946 Chevrolet 1/2 ton interchangeable with a 1946 GMC 1/2 ton pick up? From what I've been reading, I think the answer is yes, but I'd like a more informed opinion from an experienced Stovebolter.
I'm picking up my first Art Deco truck tomorrow. It's a '46 GMC with a utility bed. I will post some pictures shortly. This truck is in pretty good shape and is in running condition [I plan on driving it home]; however, the bottoms of the doors are very badly rusted and my novice opinion is that it is better/cheaper to replace them than repair them. They'd have to be pretty bad before I'd scrap them for "new" ones. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 888 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 888 | Jeff 46, Congrats on your new find and welcome to the Bolt! You can find most of your answers here. There is a vast amount of knowledge and experience here to help any novice or pro. I made and replaced the door bottoms on my 4t6 starting here. Your Jimmys doors should be very similiar. Your doors will interchange with a chevy. They are pretty rusty but I've seen worse so repairs are possible. Just so you know almost all of the cab and body parts are interchangeable with the Chevy. The GMCs have a different filler pannel between the front fender and the grill, because of the difference in the grill for the chevy. Every other body part that I know of should fit with no problem. It looks like you have a fun project ahead of you. Good luck and enjoy the trip. A body shop could repair one door in less than 4 hours labor.

No better smell than that of fresh paint. I've been building and painting cars/trucks for 47 years. I fixed one of my doors and replaced the other. In the end only I would know the difference between the two of them (although most could tell if I took the inner panel off due to being able to see the weld on the back side from the new skin. You can even buy door skins form most of the various parts vendors. Good luck
