thanks...that looks informative...not sure how that figures into mixture adjustment tho..

would pulling the plugs for inspection help?

not sure if the weak rings in my eng would mess up this means of investigation?

Tune for maximum vacuum. I usually set the idle as low as it will go, then set the mixture. Do it again until your changes are minimal. I then bump the idle up just a bit so it doesn't die at stop signs. With automatic tranny and a/c, they need to be engaged when you reset the idle at the end.

Pulling the plugs won't hurt, that's for certain.

Without hi tech equipment a good way to tell if the main mixture is about right is with the choke open it should hesitate & bog when the engine is cold. Than run good after it warms up. To set the idle mixture turn the idle mixture screw in slowly till the engine starts to slow down. Then back it out till it runs good about 1/2 turn. Reading the plugs is also good. If the porcelan is black it shure is rich. If there is a little soot on the shell it,s a little rich.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
