I realized that I need to replace 7 captive nuts for the door hinges on my cab but so far I can't seem to find a vendor that sells them. Is there anyone that makes replacement ones? I would have no problem welding nuts in as a replacement but I'm guessing that they were originally captive nuts to allow adjustment in the placement of the door hinges. Is this correct, or should I just weld nuts in?

I've never seen anything like cage nuts available, and it is handy to have them where they were originally used, but as much for locating and holding as for adjustment .... you could always try making your own cages

I think Woody (Czechman) recently posted a few links showing captive/caged nuts). If those are what is being discussed here, I have seen them at local hardware stores, and at McMaster-Carr, and at Restoration Specialties, Inc.

I keep square nuts around for just that. If I need a cage nut, I stick a welding wire to a square nut, run a few more inches of wire out and cut it. Square nuts are pretty good about grabbing something to keep them from spinning.

Milhouse, Mar-K makes the lower door hinge repair panels and also can supply the cage nuts separately. This is the cage nut that is toward the door opening, not the bigger one on the firewall area. Ask for part number 110683 for the square cage nuts with cage. I think these are also the same for upper door hinge.
