The only repop I have found so far is a company that makes them out of STainless and they are pricey at around $500. Perhaps OlTrucks can give us an update if he sees this post.

In your tank hunt did you run across a TF tank for the stock location by any chance?
best wishes,

I did not see any tanks but perhaps it would help to email Oltrucks here on the sige or call JimCarters and ask for Mike Taylor. He may have one outback laying in the used stuff. I will keep my eye open for one around here though.
I guess your all healed up no from the "buzz saw" deal. I spoke with Jim at the Turlock swapmeet this weekend and he confirmed that he is in the process of having the gas tanks made for the 47/8 pickups and the 47/55 Panels/Suburban/Canopy Express. He does not have a date when he will have them, but he is through the process of getting them made. It is not in the catalog at this time.
He also had the rear window spring clips made for the 1947/53 suburban. These are the clips that release the sliding windows (4) and are mounted to the body. These are not yet listed in the catalog either. The 54/5 clips are not being made at this time and I doubt that he will have them made. | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,859 Grumpy old guy playing with trucks, cars, and boats | Grumpy old guy playing with trucks, cars, and boats Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,859 | George, any idea on the material that JC will be making the tanks out of?

What is the difference between the 47-53 and 54/55 sliding window clips (Chevrolet)?

Jerry's 55 GMC has the different ones from my 1948 GMC. Most people have never noticed the difference. Jim and I had this discussion on saturday and he had already confirmed the difference. Maybe someone can post their 47/53 clips....Weeds?
Scott, probably the same material the Camero and Chevelle reproduction tanks are made from. He is getting them from the same vendor.

I have a few chromed clips (in cold storage at this time) but I do not know what year/make they are off of. My 54 Chevy did not have chromed clips. I always wondered what years used which types of clips (or, if the chrome clip was a GMC thing).

PS: If you have an extra 54/5 clip, Jerry (gmc55) Needs one. | | | | OLTrucks Unregistered | OLTrucks Unregistered | There is three styles of clips, The ones Jim Carter's is reproducing (came off one of my 1951s) is the 1947- mid 1952 are basically flat with a curve in at the top and used on windows that use the stainless edge on the sliding window section. I the other is seen on BigSix302's 1953 GMC burb (maybe we can get him to get a photo on one) then you have the later coated lock tab used in the later 1953s - 1955 1st | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | George and others,
Are you referring to the spring clips ("chrome clips" or painted clips) )that attach to the inner body and keep the sliding panes from sliding forward? Or, are you referring to the stainless handle that goes on the sliding window?
The stainless steel pieces on the sliding windows are different for different makes (GMC and Chevrolet) and/or different years.

The 1947/53? are chrome, not stainless. The 54/5 clips are painted and textured. I was not aware that there are three clips, one for the 53 only.
I was also unaware that there were different sliding handles. I may have seen two types, but I can't confirm that. I brought my camera up to take some pictures, but have been busy installing a three phase converter in the new shop. I will take some tomorrow, I hope.

The next question in this scenario is what about the fuel sending units. Will they be making a repop for thee tanks????

I told him that we concluded that it would not. Maybe OlTruck will chime in on this! John Romero who often posts this board made another part work. Here is the original post and this is the actual part he used. | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | that 'original post' appears to be missing George, but I can 2nd that a universal sender can be fit to any rectangular tank [have one now for a new custom tank for daBus], and they can be obtained from most FLAPS, just make sure it's 30 ohms .... also, using the rotten origial sender on my 57 panel as a pattern, modifying the pickup tube and float arm on a repro pickup unit worked fine, don't see why it couldn't be done for an AD

Some panel body tanks (54-55?) came with one opening on top for a dual unit, and it seems that other panel body tanks (47-53?) might have come with two holes for separate units (is that right)?
