Hey All, I have been searching for a long time for some 4.10 gears for my daily driver 48-3/4 ton truck. I finally found a set thanks to fellow bolter Tyler. He had a set he wasnt using and I had some spare parts I wasnt using so we traded. The best part was that my brother was able to deliver the parts each way and I didnt have to pay shipping. I had a chance to get the new carrier in yesterday and WOW what a difference. The engine is so quiet I may need to invest in a sound system now. I am really looking forward to the improved gas mileage, even if its only 1 or 2 mpg. I highly recommend the swap if you can find the carrier. I still seem to have plenty of power, even with my worn out 235.

[is jealous]

Lucky dog.

Of course, It would help (I suppose) if I had my truck roadworthy...

Lack of brakes is a big deal.

At least, it is to the sheriff.

Hi oldtmy48! I have a 49 3/4 ton that I want to do the same to. They are geared so low, that after you shift into 4th, you need one more gear! I have a question of you. Now since you have the higher rear end, how's it's take off power from a stop, in second?
Thanks!
KT

OldMy, I know what you mean!

kthomas, I thought I might lug down when I started in 2nd (out of 4) with my 4.10 gears but no problem whatsoever.

Hey All, Thanks for the responses. KThomas, It starts fine in second. My clutch is about gone from a rear main seal leak so I have mostly been using low to start in. The Bolter that I got the gears from, got them from a wrecking yard and they told him it was out of a 67 - 72, 3/4 ton van. The ring gear is stamped 4.10 so there is no question. I have seen several of the early 60's 3/4 ton trucks have the same rear axle, but all the ones I have found have the 4.57 gears. I know that they are out there, just keep looking. I am going to keep looking for another for my 51, 3/4 ton truck for when I get it roadworthy.
