I installed a rebuilt fresh air heater in my '49 half ton. Everything is working well. As you know, the heater motor penetrates through the firewall and is visible from inside the engine compartment. My question... is there supposed to be a doughnut-shaped gasket or a housing of some sort that fits around the motor from the engine side? What is it made of and what does it look like. Where can I find one? I don't believe I've seen such a thing for sale by vendors or e-Bay. The motor is not centered in the firewall hole, and it looks a bit funny from the engine side. Thanks.

There was a rubber seal attached to a metal ring that was screwed to the firewall. The motor projected through the seal. The motor should be close to centered in the hole in the dash.

I think this has what you are looking for. I would call them to be sure that the large round seal is right.

Tim pointed out the gasket set if you want to order it. But I would just cut it out of a sheet of 1/16" rubber, maybe even an old inner tube. it is 4.75"od x 3.125"id or a tight fit to the motor. The metal retainer ring is 1/16"tk x 4.75"od x 3.75"id. it is retained by three clutch head screws from the engine side.
