I bought my GM HEI ignition from him.

Again, you might have to call.

I don't know if ARP fasteners would have what works, but they deal with bigger volumes and aren't stovebolt specialists.

I think the later model 250 chevy 6 had the studs for the power steering mount,( the intergral head motors). When I get back home (sun) I have a 59 235 in the garage will check some measurements for you, those will be the same as the 261 in my truck.

Im going to the local auto yard sunday and will see it the later inlines have any studs that would be usable.


The brackets have been cut out, they have to weld them together and then send them my way. A coat of paint and we will see how they work.

Im trying to work out a final cost on these. Don't want to charge to much but it costs money to have these cut out and welded. Its looking about to be about $150 for the set.

Depending on whether or not you want to buy mounts. Check your local hot rod shop for Alan Grove mounts. I know Alan Grove makes them for Chevy V/8s,but I am unsure about the sixes.I had a problem breaking alternator mounts on my 55 with a 350 engine. I found the Alan Grove mount at my local hot rod shop,and also purchased one for the power steering.They have worked out very good.

I was just checking out the website for alan grove mounts. They do have a alternator and a/c compressor mount for the inlines but didn't see any power steering mounts. It also doesn't look like they make any mounts for 54 and earlier inlines.

Ok 1 bracket has been welded together, 1 more to go and then they will be shipped my way. I grabbed a 2nd pump from the local yard and am painting it at the moment. I also grabbed a dual groove pulley so I can run the alternator off the p/s pump.

I discovered one thing about these pumps. The first pump I got has a different pressure output fitting than the second pump I just picked up. I believe the first pump came off of a Dakota pickup were as the second one came from a full size puckup. The pumps are exactly the same just the output fitting is different. 1 good thing is that the fitting can easily be changed out, and can probably (I haven't tested it yet) use a GM fitting.

I got the first two head bolts changed out to studs. I found that Jeep Inline 6's have basically the same head bolts, the length of the bolt was just a inch longer than the gm inline 6 bolt, took care of that with a hack-saw. OK got my upper alternator mount (thanks Mickster)

I have some work to do so I can mount the belt adjusters. Need to find a better place for the power distribution block I have mounted on the driver side inner fender.

Basically two 3/8" threaded rods, 1 right handed thread and 1 left handed thread and a coupling with right and left handed threads. Much like a tie rod, turn the coupling to adjust the tension on the belt. Unfortunately all the hardware stores around here don't carry left handed thread bolts and nuts so I had to place a order with Mcmaster Carr. The opposite side brackets will look the same, with a 3/8" nut welded onto the bracket.

I like the idea of a tie rod type belt adjuster but price wise its not the best. The coupling is about $12ea and the threaded rod a few bucks, then theres a bit of welding and getting everything aligned correctly. So Im working on a different way of adjusting the belt. Something that won't cost so much to make, and take alot of time but still works well. Basically just the same type of belt adjuster included in many alternator kits and whats used stock as well.

got my belt adjusters done, had them cut out locally. Will have pictures, dark out right now. I like this method alot better than the tie rod idea I was going to do. this way is much cheaper as far as cost and is a lot simpler in design. works well too.

No hurry, but looking forward to the pictures. I am glad you are making progress on your project. Other home projects have been keeping me away from the garage.

Yup, now I just need to measure for the length of belts I need, go pick them up and install them....Then to fully test them out, I need to finish my other project that I started half way in between this one, my tbi fuel injection conversion.

I will watch with interest your project with the fuel injection as well. I thought about it, but am just going with a 4bbl carb for now.

did you decide what you are going with for the 4bbl?

It is a Holley 390 on a Clifford manifold. I have not yet figuredout the linkage. Hopefully I will bring the motor home to PA from Nebraska in June.
