Put 4 quarts in, start the engine, add 3 more, then add 1/2 at a time (checking fluid level each 1/2 quart)
Then shift manually into each gear PRNDL-LDNRP. Check the fluid level again.
It's better to leave it a little low(at the add line) than to over-fill it.

With a small cooler, you should be in the 11 quart range if the transmission was dry with a dry converter. Start with four and go from there. Be sure to let the fill tube drain a few minutes before checking. Joe

A Th350 from 'bone' dry holds 10 quarts.
It wont hurt to put in 7/8 and as 54TOW says,top up 'till
you reach the correct level. It may also vary depending on cooler/length of lines and pan size.
