Can I rent a tool from the local auto store to press them out, or will hammering using an expendable socket get them out without damaging the leaf spring bracket? Thanks in advance | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 334 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2005 Posts: 334 | I used a hammer to get mine out, and soaked it with PB Blaster. I've also heard that you could carefully saw out a section of it to make it easier to get out. I think I used a socket when I hammered mine out. You might also be able to use the threaded pin that goes through the bushing if it fit good, wasn't rusted, and you were replacing it. Samantha

Installation is the reverse procedure. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 346 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 346 | This shackle bushing had a bent pin jammed in it. It's been the toughest shackle bushing I've come across so far. The puller is a generic setup that you should be able to rent. Puller setup on '54 2-ton shackle bushing. Bushing Push 1 The adjustable wrenches are a 16" and an 18". Bushing Push 2 I've been advised that using chrome plated sockets as shown in this picture is not safe. I should have used impact sockets that are less prone to shattering. Bushing Push 3 Results: Puller and bushing.

I ended up removing one of the spring eye bushings by drilling through the rubber part with the biggest drill bit I could find, and then using one of the little air reciprocating sheetmetal body saws you can get at Harbor Freight to saw a slot in the outer bushing shell. Those things are like a tiny sawzall and they work great. Before I got one of those I would find the right drill bit diameter so I could drill between the inner and outer shell and try to get it centered to trough out the metal, but thats really hard to do well.
