I was cutting wood the other day and saw a man walking across the yard toward me. I shut down the saw and asked if I could help him. He was wanting to buy my truck. My truck isnt for sale, but I do appreciate him asking. Let me rephrase, my truck isnt for sale!! He did offer me double of what I paid for it, but where am I going to find another 62 that would be a good driver without having to totally rebuild the truck? I love my truck. It is dependable and I think it rocks!
Maybe someday I will change my mind, then maybe NOT.

When folks ask me if my '46 1-1/2 ton is for sale, I just tell 'em, "Sure!" When they ask, "How much?" I throw 'em something like, "Oh, how 'bout $68.3 million?"

Haven't had any takers, yet.

I ask $50,000. I'm actually in a position where I shouldn't refuse $5,000 but I guess that's about what mine is worth, and I don't want to risk selling it..

I get asked if I'm willing to sell my '66 every time I go to Lowe's or out running errands. I always tell he person that I'm asking $125,000 but I'll settle for $110,000.

Money can't replace or buy the memories of my dad and grandpaw teaching me how to work on an old truck, and the fun we've had doing it over the past 5 years (and counting). thumbs_up

I think one of the factors that keeps me from selling mine is the time it took to figure out everything that was wrong with it after I bought it. For the first year or so: Pump the brakes fix a cylinder. switch the defrost, fix the fan. Look under the dash and OH GOD!, fix the wiring. Now it runs, and it’s as safe as it was in 53, or nearly. Sell it?
Nah. smile

Hell when I brought my '58 back from Indiana on a flatbed trailer, I probably had 2 or 3 people ask me if it was for sale at EACH gas station I stopped at. also got into all kinds of conversations with people. Really is a good ice-breaker :-)

I have to agree with you all. I just recently acquired another bolt, a 52 one ton panel and am anxiously waiting for it to arrive. but in the mean time my wife has said that something has to go. I have had a 49 3600 flatbed for years. and am restoring a 46 1.5 ton. I have a 25 dodge screenside. I guess the screenside is on the block. I love the chevys.

I have my dads old convertible and constantly asked if it was for sale and I always tell them that since it has been in the family since new I will start entertaining offers at 250,000 but 500,000 is what I will sell it for,no takersa yet. Jeff

I usually say I've turned down $20,000 what's your best offer? And did you bring cash?

That number is about three times what I've spent on it and probably five times what it is worth...

That's an interesting question. I guess one would only truely know what the magic number is if someone offers it. It will be many many years before the true value of mine gets to what I ended up putting into it. oops... Just don't tell my wife.

I added up a few of my receipts once and it was a real shocker.
However, when you compare the initial cost of my truck, and the money I've put into it over the past couple years, to what I paid for my wife's (had to be new) car...I think I've come out ahead. Well, I guess not so much since I'm paying for both of them, but you get the point.

Buying a brand new car is probably the 1# biggest way to waste your money. My wife had that "had to be new" attitude when I married her. When the time came to buy a car, I told her that I was going to buy her a 1 year old car with 15,000 miles on it and save 40% over the cost of buying the same car new. She said no way. So I told her fine, once you have enough money to buy your own car, you can do whatever you want. I'm not paying 1 cent of my money on a brand new car.

We bought that 1 year old car and have had it for almost 4 years now. grin

One day my wife and I were watching tv and a commercial for Chevy trcuks came on. I commented: "I wonder how much it really costs for GM to build a truck?" To which she quickly returned; "If anybody should know, it would be you".

Evidence that she clearly saw far too many reciepts from my restoration. smile

Yes, I made that mistake with a BMW sedan last year. Held out for an extra hundred, lost the sale, then the price of diesel went stupid and I ended up selling it for half what I wanted! frown

Old friend of mine, motorcycle dealer, had an old Shovel Electra-Glide, ex Boston Police and still with the markings. He became tired of people asking him the price, didn't want to sell it so put it in the shop with a £10,000 sterling (about $18000 then ) price tag on it. Three weeks later a guy walked in and put the cash on the table! grin

Glad to see I'm not the only one in this boat! The '66 and the '52 didn't strike the wife's fancy, but I was recently informed that the '46 was my wife and my daughter's truck. A man had innocently offered nearly $4000 more than I have in the '46 and I must admit being tempted- until my wife spoke up with that little observation! grin

at 2006 biketoberfest in daytona, there was a yellow/gold lambo that had a hitch on it pulling a trailer with a custom chopper on it.

I too have for sale price of $28,000 that how much I owe on the house, won't happen but one can always dream. However, I'd trade her for either a Aston Matrin DB5 or a 1957 packard Carribian Convertible, both are acceptable.

I can be bought.

Glad to hear you want to keep your truck. However I hope you were nice to the guy. The other day i stoped at the is place that has several old trucks. ( No fence or signs) The owner happend to be at the shop I asked if he minded i look at the trucks. He got down right mad " NO THERE NOT FOR PUBLIC VEIWING" I just said no problem and went on down the road. I have had people ask about my trucks I always show um or tell um were they might find one for sell (as mine are not for sell) Its always easier to be nice.

There's an older man in my area that has accumulated piles, and I do mean piles, of old fords. Most of them look to be Model T and A vintage. He has them stacked against the fence by the road so that everyone can see them as they drive by. Feel free to look, none the darn things are for sale. They just sit there quietly rusting into oblivion. Sad.
I think some guys are just collectors.

I've been through your area and seen that load of old Fords. That guy's sitting on a goldmine for now. Unfortunately, the generation that really loves those cars is dying off. I'll bet in 15-20 years those cars will only have half the desirablility they do now.

Now: Back to our program. I've been through several okd trucks in the last 15 years, and finally got a good solid one that's been maintained. The steering and suspension isn't worn out, the engine runs well, and I bought it dry then had it painted. It's probably worth double what I'm into it for, but I couldn't likely replace it for that. I searched for over a year to find one that wasn't worn out.

Devin

the first rule for this sport is to never count how much time or money you have spent on your truck.the second rule is to refer to the first rule.If in doubt, think about buying a new truck andhaving to sell it in a year or 2......keep on boltin!

A guy asked me what I'd take and I told him it's not for sale. He became angry and tried to argue the point, there in my driveway. He said “you will sell that truck to me.” so I told him fine 20,000 down payment. De drove off cussing me and never came back. At the time I could have used the 20,000 but I got by.

I had a car dealer ask me if my truck was for sale. I told him I would entertain offers. He told me he wouldn't offer what I "thought" it was worth. I told him I "know" what it is worth, and that he didn't need to bother telling me what his offer was. I never heard his offer and didn't care.

I'm finished buying and selling and am very happy with my current fleet. People ask to buy the trucks all the time and even the Jeep and Concorde on occasion. My standard answer is "Bill Gates doesn't have enough money."

Do like I do. I tell 'em what its worth to ME. If they get all huffy and tell me to be "reasonable", I tell 'em that I believe in free-market competition, and they can go and find one cheaper somewhere else.

I've also been told "I don't want to insult you with my offer" and I then tell them not to tell me their offer.
