Was down at the local Sunday morning meeting place this a.m. and a guy approached me with an Offy dual intake for a 216/235.

Looks like it could use some polishing and needs cleaned up, but didn't seem in bad shape at all.

Anyone know what it might be worth, or have any interest? He thought a couple of hundred???

I think you can get them for a little less then that........I had one that came with my truck but I never did use it,, brand new.. I gave it to one of our bolters because I did not think I would ever use it...........it was an offy...Fred

I would be interested, but Patrick's has em for about $190 new. Is it an earlier, cooler design that the new ones? Does it have the heat plate underneath that bolts to the exhaust?

Bob, I don't know that much about them. Where might I see a picture of one to see how it compares? This one was ribbed aluminum, (I believe)and looked like it would polish up pretty nicely.

It was designed to bolt directly to the exhaust, just like the stock intake.

I don't think he knows what it's worth, he just threw out that number to see what he might catch.

For what it's worth, I'm sure you guys know that there is a difference between the 216 and the 235 intake. The one pictured looks like a 235 Offenhauser intake.

6cly, I knew they were different, but didn't know there was enough difference in the 216 & the 235 intake to tell from a photo. But, yes, it's a 235 intake in the photo. I couldn't find a pic of the 216 intake. Is the diff the size of the intake bores, the intake length, or both?

I thought the pre-1954 (up to 53) 216 and 235's were the same and after that they early ones were different from the later ones. I was under the impression that this was the result of the change in the oiling system so the newer heads have the intake ports a smidge further apart?

There are three differences. The ports on a 216 intake are smaller. The carb bases on a 216 are smaller. The spot on the bottom of the 216 intake where it mates up to an exhaust manifold is configured different than the spot on the 235. They look the same at a quick glance, but they are different and require a different gasket.

The first two differences can be made to work for a 235. The ports can be machined out to fit a 235 head with no problems. The smaller base 216 carbs will work fine on a 235 and, in fact, are preferred by some. But the maching of the intake and the exhaust is not possible and that usually spells trouble, unless you use a 216 exhaust manifold, or go with Fenton, or some other brand of headers, that do not require the mating to the intake.

I am running an Edelbrock 216 intake on an 848 - 235 head with Fenton headers. I had the ports machined out and I am running two small base Pontiac Rochester carbs. Everything works fine!!
